STF Chief Amitabh Yash Arrives with 52 Officers to Manage Mahakumbh Mahajaam
State authorities have taken decisive measures to restore order. They are managing traffic and security in Prayagraj amid unprecedented crowds at the Mahakumbh. On Monday evening, Chief Minister Yogi showed his full support. He dispatched STF Chief Amitabh Yash to Prayagraj. He used a special plane from Mahajam. Alongside this, 52 new officers have been urgently deployed. They include 4 SPs, 5 ASPs, 15 Deputy SPs, 4 IAS, and 25 PCS officers. Their deployment is to bolster the city’s security and traffic management operations. According to the Director General of Police, these efforts have already helped. They have restored normalcy to the traffic flow in the city.
In anticipation of the Magh Purnima dip scheduled for February 12, the Mahakumbh authorities have implemented a new traffic plan. From 8 p.m. on February 10 until 8 a.m. on February 13, all vehicular movement within the Mela premises will be stopped. Only administrative and health department vehicles will be granted access. This measure aims to ensure the safety and smooth movement of the millions expected to attend the sacred event.
Amid these operational updates, President Draupadi Murmu graced the Mahakumbh with her presence on Monday. Her visit was marked by deep spiritual observance. She took three consecutive dips in the Sangam, the confluence of sacred rivers. She also offered oblations to the sun god. Prior to her ritual bath, the President presented flowers to the revered Ganga. This was followed by traditional mantric chants. She engaged in Ganga worship and performed aarti. Continuing her spiritual journey, she later visited the Late Hanuman temple and Akshayvat Dham, engaging in darshan and further prayers. Accompanied by Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi, President Murmu’s itinerary highlighted the event’s profound cultural significance. Her helicopter touched down at Bamrauli Airport around 9:30 a.m. on Monday. She then traveled by road to Arrail. Afterwards, she went by boat to the Sangam. She stayed in Prayagraj until 4 p.m.
President Murmu’s participation is historic—she becomes only the second President, after Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1954, to take the sacred dip at the Mahakumbh. Today marks the 29th day of the festival, during which over 44.74 crore devotees have already bathed since January 13. Furthermore, by 8 p.m. today alone, an estimated 1.17 crore people have taken the plunge. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also joined the festivities. He dipped into the Sangam with his family. He offered his own oblations to the sun.
As the city grapples with the enormous influx of devotees, extra crowd-control measures have been enforced. Boat services from Arrail Ghat to the Sangam have been suspended, and Sangam station has been closed until February 14. At Prayagraj Junction, an emergency crowd management plan is in place to safely accommodate the massive gatherings.
State officials and security agencies coordinate efforts. These actions underscore the commitment to maintaining order and safety during one of the world’s largest religious congregations. They guarantee that the sacred spirit of the Mahakumbh is preserved even amid logistical challenges.
