Ceasefire Demands by Russia: Moscow Sends List to Trump for Ukraine Peace Deal
Russia has reportedly outlined a set of conditions for a ceasefire. This is occurring in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Sources cited by Reuters confirm this report. The proposal comes amid ongoing discussions—both in-person and virtual—between Russian and American officials.
Moscow’s demands closely resemble its previous conditions presented to NATO, Ukraine, and the U.S. before the 2022 invasion. These include:
1. Ukraine’s NATO Membership Ban – Russia insists that Ukraine must not be allowed to join NATO. Russia views the alliance’s expansion into former Soviet states as a direct threat to its security.
2. Foreign Military Presence in Ukraine – Moscow demands a ceasefire. No foreign troops or military infrastructure should be stationed in Ukraine.
3. Recognition of Annexed Territories – Russia seeks international acknowledgment of Crimea and the regions it annexed in the Donbas. These include Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Russia wants these areas recognized as part of Russian territory.
These demands follow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent openness to negotiating a 30-day ceasefire. Meanwhile, Bloomberg previously reported that Moscow is pushing for Ukraine’s neutrality. They want Ukraine to renounce NATO ambitions. They also want Ukraine to reject any EU-deployed peacekeeping forces.
Before the 2022 conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin had urged the U.S. to stop NATO’s expansion and military operations in Eastern Europe. He also wanted to end military activity in Central Asia. The Biden administration largely dismissed these requests, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.
