Iran-Israel War Escalates: Long-Range Strikes, Intelligence Chief Killed, Nuclear Talks Collapse
Tensions between Iran and Israel have reached a boiling point, with intensified aerial attacks from both sides. Iran has launched ballistic missiles at multiple Israeli cities. They have also used drones. These attacks have triggered widespread air raid sirens. Civilians are being forced into bomb shelters across the country.
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) significantly escalated their military actions. They conducted a long-range airstrike on Mashhad Airport in northeastern Iran. This location is approximately 2,300 km from Israeli territory. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the strike destroyed an Iranian aerial refueling aircraft. This action sparked a large fire at the site.
The IDF described it as one of the farthest attacks in its operational history. They drew comparisons to Israel’s 1985 strike on the PLO headquarters in Tunisia.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed in an interview with Fox News. He stated that a precision strike by Israeli forces killed Iran’s Intelligence Chief Brigadier General Mohammad Kazemi. The strike also killed his deputy, General Hassan Mohaqiq, in Tehran.
Netanyahu also accused Iran of preparing to supply nuclear weapons to the Houthi rebels, further escalating regional fears.
Former US President Donald Trump claimed that only he could de-escalate the Iran-Israel war. He compared it to his past mediation between India and Pakistan. A Reuters report also revealed that Trump had rejected an Israeli proposal. The proposal was to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He cited the lack of direct Iranian attacks on American citizens as the reason.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on Iraq to prevent Israeli forces from using Iraqi airspace for strikes against Iran. During talks with Iraqi PM Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, Pezeshkian emphasized the need for Iraq to safeguard its sovereignty. He urged Iraq to prevent its territory from becoming a launchpad for foreign aggression.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed condolences to Iran during a phone call with President Pezeshkian. He labeled Israel’s recent strikes as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international law. He urged a return to diplomatic solutions and enounced the use of force in resolving conflicts.
The Israeli military has issued a public warning to Iranian civilians, urging them to evacuate areas near nuclear reactors. The military cited an “imminent threat” but did not disclose further details about possible operations in those zones.
Scheduled nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States were abruptly called off following Israel’s latest strikes on Iranian territory. President Pezeshkian stated that Iran will not return to talks as long as Israel continues its military aggression.
