Pakistani MP Sparks Controversy With Provocative Remark on Babri Masjid
A member of Pakistan’s opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, has stirred diplomatic tensions with India. She made an inflammatory statement regarding the Babri Masjid reconstruction.
Speaking at a public event, Palwasha declared a controversial statement. She mentioned an interesting detail. A soldier of the Pakistan Army would lay the first brick of the reconstructed Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. She also said that the first azaan (Islamic call to prayer) would be delivered. Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir would deliver it. This statement has been widely condemned as an incitement and an intrusion into India’s internal affairs.
Further escalating her rhetoric, the PPP MP remarked, “We don’t wear bangles. When the time comes, we will respond,” implying Pakistan’s readiness to retaliate militarily. The comments have been interpreted as a veiled threat to India’s sovereignty and security forces.
Palwasha also controversially praised Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the U.S.-based pro-Khalistan separatist declared a terrorist by India under the UAPA Act. She described him as a “brave voice.” She praised his advocacy for Sikh separatism. This statement is seen as further stoking anti-India sentiments.
In her speech, she claimed that Sikh soldiers would refuse to fight Pakistan. They have a religious reverence for the land of Guru Nanak. “This land is sacred to them. They will not cross over to attack Pakistan,” she stated.
The Indian government has not yet released an official statement. Diplomatic circles in New Delhi have described the remarks as provocative and inflammatory. They call it a deliberate attempt to incite religious tensions. Security analysts warn that such statements could derail fragile regional peace efforts and further damage already strained India-Pakistan ties.
India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, reacting indirectly to the provocative rhetoric, emphasized India’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty. “No one should underestimate the resolve of India’s armed forces. Any attempts to interfere in our internal matters will be strongly countered. We will also strongly counter any attempts to provoke religious sentiments,” he said at a defence event on Tuesday.
