US Strategist Criticizes Trump Administration for Allowing IMF Aid to Pakistan

New Delhi: Michael Rubin is a prominent defense expert. He is affiliated with the conservative-leaning American Enterprise Institute. Rubin has strongly criticized the Trump administration. He believes they enabled the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to approve a $1 billion bailout for Pakistan. He argued this support came despite Pakistan’s ongoing use of terrorism as a tool of state policy.

IMF Aid Seen as Indirect Benefit to China

Rubin emphasized that the IMF’s financial assistance to Pakistan inadvertently benefits China as well. “Assisting Pakistan with IMF funds effectively serves to support China,” he remarked. He pointed out Pakistan’s increasing economic dependence on Beijing while referring the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He says it has plunged Islamabad into approximately $40 billion of debt. Rubin also described the Gwadar port as a key component of China’s strategic maritime ambitions.

India Seen as Victorious in Conflict With Pakistan

Several American national security analysts made declarations. Among them, Rubin said that India emerged as the clear victor in a recent limited military conflict with Pakistan. According to him, Pakistan’s military bluster was exposed as hollow, leading the country to hurriedly seek a ceasefire.

He delivered a scathing critique of Pakistan’s military leadership. He asserted that their response to Indian strikes revealed their vulnerability. In a video statement, Rubin stated, “The Pakistani military cannot construct a narrative. It cannot mask the reality of their overwhelming defeat.”

Op-Ed: Pakistan Called “One of the Most Corrupt Countries”

In a recent opinion piece, Rubin denounced the Trump administration’s failure to oppose the IMF’s financial assistance to Pakistan. He described Pakistan as a deeply corrupt country. He argued that the decision came shortly after terrorists based in Pakistan crossed into India. They committed atrocities, including killing non-Muslims in front of their families.

IMF Accused of Undermining US Policy

Rubin also suggested that the IMF’s decision was not merely a financial misstep, but a political provocation. He interpreted the approval of the aid package as a direct challenge to President Trump’s foreign policy goals. This was significant because the White House was working to reduce tensions between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan.
