DRDO Successfully Tests Indigenous Glide Bomb ‘Gaurav’ from Su-30 MKI

Precision Strike Capabilities Boosted with Near 100-km Range

India has successfully tested its homegrown Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) ‘Gaurav’. The release trials were conducted from a Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft between April 8 and 10, 2025. The bomb was tested against a land-based target on an island. It demonstrated high precision and achieved a range close to 100 kilometers.

Developed Under DRDO’s Leadership

‘Gaurav’ is a 1,000-kg class guided bomb. DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI) co-developed it with Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE). Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur was also a collaborator in the development. The weapon was tested with multiple warhead types and mounting stations to evaluate its operational flexibility.

Senior officials from the DRDO and the Indian Air Force (IAF) were present during the trials to assess performance.

Industry Collaboration and Quality Assurance

The development involved leading private players such as Adani Defence, Bharat Forge, and several MSMEs. The Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) provided certification. The Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) ensured quality assurance.

Leadership Applauds Milestone

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO. He also praised the IAF and industry partners for the achievement. He called it a major boost to India’s indigenous defence capabilities.

DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat also commended the teams for successfully demonstrating the advanced weapon system. He highlighted its importance in strengthening India’s strategic strike options.
