MoD Inks ₹661.50 Crore Deal for BrahMos Fire Control Systems and Launchers to Arm Indian Navy Warships

In a decisive move to strengthen indigenous naval combat power, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract worth ₹661.50 crore with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) in New Delhi. The procurement covers advanced BrahMos Fire Control Systems and missile launchers specifically configured for the Indian Navy’s frontline surface fleet under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.

Strategic Significance of the Buy (Indian-IDDM) Contract

The procurement executed under the Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured (IDDM) framework guarantees a minimum of 68% indigenous content. Inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, the contract accelerates self-reliance across critical naval hardware:

  • SME & MSME Integration: Direct supply chain engagement for domestic component manufacturers and precision engineering units.
  • Domestic Employment Generation: Multi-tier technical and manufacturing jobs sustained over a three-year execution window.
  • Technological Sovereignty: Further indigenisation of weapon interface software, digital processing cards, and structural launching units.

Operational Role of the BrahMos Fire Control System

The BrahMos complex serves as the Indian Navy’s primary long-range Surface-to-Surface Missile (SSM) suite, giving destroyers and frigates both sea-skimming anti-ship and precision land-attack strike capability at supersonic speeds (Mach 2.8–3.0).

The integrated Fire Control System coordinates target acquisition data from shipboard radars and maritime patrol aircraft, computing high-speed intercept trajectories in dense electronic warfare environments. This procurement ensures that upcoming vessel retrofits and new-build surface combatants maintain uninterrupted strike readiness across the Indian Ocean Region.
