Golden Temple Targeted in Cross-Border Attack
Amritsar, Punjab – On the night of May 8, Pakistan launched a drone and missile strike. This attack targeted the Golden Temple and other key areas in Punjab. The attack followed India’s successful counter-terrorism offensive, Operation Sindoor, which dismantled several terrorist camps across the border. The Indian Army’s air defence units acted swiftly. As a result, they neutralized every incoming threat before it could cause harm.
Indian Army’s Proactive Measures Prevent Devastation
Major General Kartik C. Seshadri, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15th Infantry Division, made a revelation on Monday. He stated that the Army had anticipated such an attack. Intelligence inputs and strategic assessment suggested that religious landmarks, military bases, and residential areas could be possible targets. Given the high symbolic value of the Golden Temple, it was among the most likely locations to be attacked.
Indian forces acted to counter any such threats. They had already deployed enhanced air defence cover around the site. This included advanced missile systems and anti-aircraft guns. As expected, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were launched under the cover of darkness. Long-range missiles were also launched. Army gunners effectively intercepted them using Akash missiles. They used L-70 air defence systems as well.
No Damage to the Shrine: Indian Army’s Precision Response
“Despite the scale of the attack, not a single projectile was allowed to breach our defences,” said Maj. Gen. Seshadri. “The Golden Temple remains untouched, without even a scratch.” He emphasized the professionalism and preparedness of India’s air defence units, calling their response both swift and precise.
He added that the Indian Army is a disciplined and responsible force. It responds only when provoked. When it responds, it does so with calculated precision. “We did not target any civilian infrastructure or Pakistani military installations. Our counterstrikes were solely aimed at terror hubs,” he said.
Pakistan’s Use of Terror as a Strategic Tool Condemned
Maj. Gen. Seshadri criticized Pakistan for using terrorism as state policy. He pointed out that the Pakistan Army lacked the capability to engage India’s military directly. They also lacked the courage to do so. He stated that Pakistan has no legitimate military targets in India. This is why it resorts to attacking soft or symbolic locations.
Operation Sindoor: Surgical Strikes on Terror Camps
During Operation Sindoor, Indian forces launched strikes on multiple terror hubs across Pakistan. These included locations in Bahawalpur and Muridke—known bases of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, respectively. The Army clarified that none of these strikes targeted Pakistani military or civilian facilities, focusing strictly on terrorist infrastructure.
Army Demonstrates Defence Capabilities
A live demonstration was held to showcase the effectiveness of India’s air defence. During this event, the Army simulated the interception of incoming missiles and drones. Systems like the Akash missile and L-70 air defence guns participated in this exercise. They reaffirm India’s readiness to protect its territory. Their involvement also highlights the commitment to preserving cultural heritage.
