Why Army Needs 1000 Surveillance Copters for LAC?

The Indian Army has issued Requests for Information (RFIs) for the procurement of 1,000 Surveillance Copters. It has also issued RFIs for 50 Heavy Crawler Rock Drills. This move aims to guarantee vigilance with modernization and self-reliance in military technology. These RFIs are uploaded on the Indian Army’s official website. They highlight the Army’s focus on strengthening its operational readiness. This is particularly true in high-altitude areas like Ladakh, Siachen, and Arunachal Pradesh.

The Surveillance Copters can function at 5,500 meters above sea level. They will be equipped with day and night cameras. This setup will offer real-time intelligence. Their deployment is expected to enhance border monitoring. It will reduce reliance on traditional foot patrols in hostile terrain. It will also allow faster responses to security threats. Given the ongoing tensions along the LAC (Line of Actual Control) with China, this move indicates India’s strategic effort. It aims to strengthen reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities in remote border areas.

The Indian Army currently relies on various surveillance systems. These include Israeli Heron UAVs and Searcher drones. Our adversaries are equally advancing theirs. So we have to keep increasing our technology and combat capabilities.”
