CBI Files Closure Report in Sushant Singh Rajput Case; Advocates React with Mixed Opinions

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly filed a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. This comes after nearly four and a half years of investigation. The development has sparked a wave of reactions from legal experts. Some are expressing gratitude for the thorough probe. Others emphasize that the report carries no legal finality unless accepted by the court.

Rhea Chakraborty gets a clean chit

Senior Advocate Satish Maneshinde represented Rhea Chakraborty during the investigation. He welcomed the closure and expressed relief. The case had finally concluded. “We are grateful to the CBI. They thoroughly investigated every aspect of the case from all angles. We appreciate that they closed it. The false narratives on social and electronic media were uncalled for. Innocent people were hounded and paraded before the media and investigative authorities. I hope this does not repeat in any case,” he stated.

Maneshinde condemned the harsh treatment faced by Rhea Chakraborty. She spent 27 days in jail. Justice Sarang V. granted her bail. Kotwal praised her and her family for enduring the ordeal with dignity. “I salute Rhea and her family for their resilience despite the inhuman treatment they suffered. They came to me through a close friend and Defence personnel I studied with at a Sainik School. My team and I were also hounded and threatened, but nothing deterred us from performing our legal duties,” he added.

On the other hand, Advocate Nilesh Ojha, National President of the Indian Bar Association, issued a caution. He stated that the closure report has no legal value. This holds true unless it is formally accepted by the court. He emphasized that the judiciary has the power to reject the report. It can also order further investigation, citing cases like Nupur Talwar vs. CBI (2012) and Justice Nirmal Yadav vs. CBI (2011). Ojha reassured Sushant’s supporters that the legal battle is far from over. He highlighted the available remedies. These include filing a protest petition and seeking judicial intervention.

As the court reviews the CBI’s findings, the contrasting reactions from legal experts show ongoing public scrutiny. They also reflect the legal complexities surrounding the case that captured the nation’s attention.
