Allahabad High Court Bar Association Rejects Transfer of Yashwant Verma Amid Corruption Scandal

Allahabad, 21 March 2025 – The Allahabad High Court Bar Association (AHCBA) has strongly rejected the Supreme Court’s decision. This decision involved transferring Hon’ble Justice Yashwant Verma back to the Allahabad High Court. The transfer followed allegations of corruption. The Bar Association expressed outrage over the move. They questioned whether the Allahabad High Court is being treated as a “thrash bin” for tainted judges.

The transfer comes after a shocking incident where ₹15 crore in unaccounted cash was discovered at Justice Verma’s residence. The recovery occurred after a fire broke out at his bungalow. His family called the fire brigade and police. Authorities found the massive stash of cash after extinguishing the flames. This discovery led to official entries. It also prompted subsequent action by the Supreme Court collegium.

The AHCBA condemned the transfer in a strongly worded statement. It highlighted the chronic shortage of judges in the Allahabad High Court. It criticized the Supreme Court’s decision. The AHCBA argued that transferring a judge accused of corruption to an already overburdened court undermines the judiciary’s credibility. This action erodes public faith.

The Bar Association also called out the lack of transparency in judicial appointments, demanding reforms and greater accountability. The legal fraternity is mounting pressure. Now, the Supreme Court must justify its decision. It should take measures to prevent further damage to the judiciary’s integrity.
