Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin condemns Asim Munir’s remarks on India during his visit to USA. Mr. Rubin slams US president Donald trump’s stand on India, criticising US for securing its own interest from Russia by securing trade in critical minerals but dis-allowing India to trade with Russia.
Asim Munir’s Nuclear threat to India from US soil
Asim Munir twice in a month visited US and met Donald Trump. During his address in Tampa, Florida he threatened India with nuclear threats.
Munir said that if Pakistan “goes down, it would take half the world down” with it, referring to its nuclear arsenal. He also allegedly threatened India directly: “We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, we will destroy it with ten missiles.”
The remark came after months of India’s suspension of Indus water Treaty post Pehalgam terror attack backed by Pakistan.

Rubin’s Remark on Asim Munir’s Stand
Rubin told, “Pakistan’s threats on American soil are completely unacceptable. It is raising questions in many people’s minds. People are questioning whether it can fulfill the responsibilities of being a state. Has the time come for it to end? The Field Marshal’s rhetoric is reminiscent of what we heard from Osama Bin Laden.”
Highlighting Pakistan’s irresponsible nature for handling nuclear arsenal in case of low terms with another nation like India.

“Americans look at terrorism through the lens of grievance,” he explained. “They don’t understand the ideological underpinnings of many terrorists. Asim Munir is Osama bin Laden in a suit.”
He urged Washington to take firm action. This includes removing Pakistan’s status as a major non-Nato ally. He also suggested considering its designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Furthermore, he recommended declaring Munir persona non grata with a ban on US visas. “Asim Munir made those comments. Within 30 minutes, he should have been ushered out. They should have taken him to Tampa International Airport and flew him out of the United States,” Rubin said.
Rubin’s Remark on Trump’s Actions
Rubin remarked on the wrongful stand of Trump for India – “Donald Trump is wrong in targeting India in this case. US purchases Uranium hexafluoride and other strategic minerals from Russia… US talks about gas from Azerbaijan as optimal, whereas the majority of its supply is Russian or Iranian and Americans are purchasing it… India is right to stand up for its rights… PM Modi standing up for India’s rights is going to be the episode that historians remember where the US truly learnt that you cannot kick India around. Donald Trump is wrong and US will try to work through that… Once this episode passes, India-US relations will improve significantly…”
Rubin framed current US-India tensions over trade and Russian energy imports as a “stress test.” He believes this will ultimately make the partnership stronger once it passes.
