Luthra Brothers Detained in Thailand

Law enforcement agencies have intensified their probe into the Goa club fire incident. The club’s owners brothers Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra were detained in Phuket, Thailand. This happened five days after they fled India on an IndiGo flight from Delhi. They fled just hours after the incident. Authorities had earlier issued a Look-Out Circular and an Interpol Blue Notice against them. A police team is expected to travel to Thailand to bring the duo back for questioning.

Police investigations have revealed severe safety lapses at the nightclub. The establishment reportedly lacked basic fire-fighting equipment, alarms, and suppression systems, and did not have an up-to-date fire safety audit. The FIR further stated that the club’s staff and management conducted a pyrotechnic display. They were aware of the potential risks but did not take necessary precautions. A lack of emergency exits on both the deck and lower levels reportedly trapped several patrons inside during the blaze.

Adding to the fallout, another property owned by the Luthra brothers—a beach shack—was recently demolished. Officials found it to be illegally constructed. It was also non-compliant with safety regulations.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Madhav has pledged strict action against those responsible. He warned all entertainment venues in the state to ensure adherence to fire and safety norms. Earlier this week, co-owner Ajay Gupta was detained in Delhi. He claimed he played no active role in managing the nightclub’s operations.
