Hindi Policy of Maharashtra Unites Thackeray Brothers

The issue of Hindi in Maharashtra has brought Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray on one platform. Both the leaders will take out a rally. It is believed that after this the political picture of both will be clear regarding the municipal elections.

A New Political equation Emerging in Maharashtra

Uddhav Thackeray, the former Chief Minister, and Raj Thackeray, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief, will appear together. They are going to be seen on the political stage. Marathi identity is at its core.

Actually, Thackeray brothers allege that Maharashtra government is imposing Hindi. The Devendra Fadnavis government had recently issued an order. It stated that Hindi will be taught as a third language. This will apply from class one to five in Marathi and English language schools. Political parties have opened a front against this three language order.

As per the new education policy, the Maharashtra government has designated Hindi as the third language in government schools. The government has provided another option. If twenty children in a class want to study a language other than Hindi, they will be taught that language. The opposition parties of Maharashtra are calling this decision a conspiracy to eliminate the Marathi language.

Raj Thackeray took the lead

In protest against this, Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray will now take out a rally together. Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray planned to take out a rally in Mumbai on July 6. Raj Thackeray was scheduled for July 7. However, Raj Thackeray called and objected to taking out a rally separately. After which a consensus was reached to take out a rally on July 5. Now both the brothers will take out a rally together on July 5.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut officially informed about the decision of both the brothers. On Friday (27 June), he posted two separate posts and shared pictures about both the brothers. In one post, Sanjay Raut said, “Jai Maharashtra! Another united march will be taken out against compulsory Hindi in Maharashtra schools. Thackeray is the brand!”

Heat Rises in Political Scenario

This announcement has increased the tension of the ruling Mahayuti as well as the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA). The biggest reason for this is the unity of the two brothers. Actually, municipal elections are going to be held in Maharashtra in the near future. If the two brothers come together in the future, then the form of the two existing big alliances will change.

Raj Thackeray was with BJP in last year’s Lok Sabha elections. However, he fielded candidates in the assembly elections. He did not get much success in this. Whereas Uddhav Thackeray is with Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP). An alliance between Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray’s party raises a question. Will Congress-NCP (SP) contest the elections together?

Why Thackeray brothers need to Re-align?

Raj Thackeray is the nephew of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. He has been an active leader in Shiv Sena for a long time. Under the leadership of Bal Thackeray, Raj Thackeray was once seen as a young leader and successor in the party. However, after Uddhav Thackeray was given the command of Shiv Sena, Raj Thackeray started feeling isolated.

The internal politics of Uddhav vs Raj within Shiv Sena came out in the open. Raj Thackeray wanted him to lead Shiv Sena. He believed that he had a strong hold on the issues of youth and Marathi identity.

Bal Thackeray chose Uddhav Thackeray as the heir to the party. This angered Raj. Raj Thackeray had a dream of creating his own political identity. He wanted to create a new politics on the issue of Marathi Manus. This politics would be based on his own leadership ability.

Troubles for Shinde Camp

There is a stir in the Shinde camp due to the coming together of Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray. Sources said on June 27 (Friday) that Eknath Shinde has called an immediate meeting of the national executive. The next strategy and appointments will be discussed. Eknath Shinde has called a meeting of the executive on June 30.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde of the Shinde faction stated there is no objection. It is fine if both the brothers come together. But Marathi Manus have seen what Uddhav Thackeray did for Marathi society for 40 years. PM Modi declared Marathi as an elite language. Uddhav Thackeray has given up his agenda and is with the Congress.

In the assembly elections, the Shinde faction had delivered a significant blow to the Uddhav faction. They accomplished this by joining hands with the BJP-NCP. It was believed that Shiv Sena voters have shifted to Shinde. It is believed that now the Shinde faction may get a shock due to the Thackeray brothers coming together.

BJP Reacts

However, BJP believes that the coming together of the two brothers will not have any significant impact. Recently, BJP conducted an internal survey regarding the coming together of the two brothers. The leader stated that even in areas with a traditional Marathi voter base, BJP’s support is stable. The survey shows that the alliance between the Thackeray brothers will not affect the number of seats of the party.

According to the survey, Uddhav Thackeray’s influence in Mumbai has diminished after the split in Shiv Sena in 2022. Almost half of the party’s corporators joined the Eknath Shinde faction. He said that Raj Thackeray’s influence is considered limited.

BJP leader Ashish Shelar said on Friday (27 June) that anyone can come together, it is their right. Our stand on Marathi is clear that Marathi is a compulsory language and Hindi is an optional language.
