PM Modi on National Space day addresses the nation on India’s increasing space capabilities.
National space day is celebrated on August 23. It is the day for giving tribute to India’s marvelous achievement for the Lunar mission. India created history by becoming the first country to land on the south pole of the moon.
“Greetings on National Space Day! India’s journey in space reflects our determination, innovation and the brilliance of our scientists pushing boundaries” PM Modi remarked.
PM Modi addressed upon India’s growing prowess in the field of Space. He mentioned the recent interaction with Astronaut Shubanshu Shukla. He also referenced India’s Lunar mission, development of semi-cryogenic engines, and docking-undocking capabilities.
The theme for National Space Day, 2025 is “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient wisdom to Infinite Possibilities.” It reflects India’s journey from ancient astronomical traditions. This journey leads to India’s achievements in human spaceflight endeavors.
Deep Space Next Destination
“We have reached the Moon and Mars. Now, we have to peek into deep space. Many secrets lie there. They would brighten the future of humanity,” PM Modi said.
He added, “Beyond galaxies lies our horizon. The universe tells us that no frontier is the final frontier. In the space sector too, at the policy level, there should be no final frontier.”

PM lauds India on its achievement in space sector. He pointed out India’s achievements. He said, “We have also become the fourth country in the world. We have the capability of docking and undocking in space.”
He added, “India achieves new milestones consecutively in the space sector. This has become the nature of the country and its scientists”. Only two years ago, India became the first country to land on the south pole of the moon. Chandrayaan-3 created history with this achievement.
PM Modi highlighted India’s role in inspiring young minds. He cited the recently hosted International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics by India. It included participants from over 60 countries. “Indian youth also won medals. This Olympiad is a symbol of India’s emerging leadership in the space sector. I am happy that ISRO has also taken initiatives like Indian Space Hackathon and Robotics Challenge. These initiatives aim to increase the interest of young friends towards space,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi on Shubhanshu Shukla’s feat
PM Modi interacted with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla three days back. Captain Shukla recently went to International Space Station for Axiom-4 mission. He hoisted the tricolour flag there.
PM Modi mentioned “He filled every Indian with pride by hoisting the tricolour on the International Space Station. The moment, the feeling when he was showing me the tricolour, is beyond words.
In my discussion with Group Captain Shubhanshu, I have seen the immense courage of the youth of the new India. I have also witnessed their infinite dreams. To take these dreams forward, we are also going to prepare India’s astronaut pool. Today on Space Day, I invite my young friends to join this astronaut pool to give wings to India’s dreams.”
Shubhanshu pointed to India’s ambitious projects. These include the Gaganyaan mission and the Bharatiya Antriksh Station. He emphasised the need for the nation’s collective support to achieve these goals.
“Be curious, be excited. It is a golden time for our country. We have very ambitious dreams, and it would need all of us to make that a reality,” he remarked.
Private Participation in Space Sector Encouraged
PM Modi highlighted India’s progress in making semi-Cryogenic engines and electronic propulsion. He also briefed India about upcoming Gaganyaan mission and India’s plan of making India’s own space station in upcoming years.
The Prime Minister also urged private players to strengthen their role in space research and innovation. “On August 15, I mentioned several sectors where India must become self-reliant.
On Space Day today, I want to address the country’s space startups. In the next five years, we can create five unicorns in the space sector. Currently, India carries out around 5–6 major launches annually from its soil. PM Modi remarked, “I want the private sector to step forward. In the next five years, we should see 50 rocket launches in a year. That means one every week.”
ISRO Confirms its Upcoming Chandrayaan-4 and Venus Mission
At the main National Space Day event in New Delhi, ISRO chairman V Narayanan announced important news. India will launch the Chandrayaan-4 mission. This mission will include a Venus Orbiter Mission.
He revealed plans for the Bhartiya Space Station (BAS), with its first module scheduled for lift-off in 2035. By 2040, India aims to land on the Moon. They also plan to safely return astronauts. This will place India’s space programme among the top in the world.
“Based on the Prime Minister’s direction and vision, we are going to have a Chandrayaan-4 mission. There will also be a Venus Orbiter Mission. Additionally, a space station called BAS will be established by 2035. The first module will be lifted off by 2028. PM Modi has also approved the Next Generation Launcher (NGL). By 2040, India will land on the Moon and bring astronauts back safely,” V Narayanan said.
“One of our major achievements is sending a ‘Gaganyatri’ to the ISS. The Prime Minister had the idea to send an Indian astronaut to the ISS. This was to be done before sending them on India’s own rocket. Shukla Ji went to the ISS and returned safely. All four of our Gaganyatris are equally important. However, he was the first to get the opportunity,” the Isro chief said.
On growing India’s prowess in Space, it is essential for the entire Nation to come together. Everyone should contribute to making India a leading power in the developmental goals for humanity at an international level.
