“Pahalgam Attack Has Shaken Us to the Core,” Says J&K CM Omar Abdullah; Apologises to Victims’ Families

Srinagar, April 28, 2025 — The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly held a special one-day session. During this session, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah delivered an emotional address. He expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of 26 innocent lives in the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack.

CM Abdullah extended a heartfelt apology on behalf of the state government. He said the attack had devastated the families of the victims. It also inflicted deep wounds on the entire nation.

“This tragedy has affected every Indian. It is deeply shameful. As hosts, we failed in our duty. We did not ensure the safe return of tourists,” said Omar Abdullah. Struggling to find the words, he added, “I do not know how to apologise to the grieving families. I have no words that could ease their pain.”

The Chief Minister condemned the brutal assault in strong terms. He noted that the scale of violence at Baisaran had not been witnessed in over two decades. “Neither I nor anyone in this House supports such heinous acts. This attack has hollowed us from within. We are still searching for a ray of hope amid this darkness,” he said.

The session began with all members of the Assembly observing a two-minute silence. They paid tribute to the victims. They registered their collective outrage against terrorism.

During the proceedings, Omar Abdullah also discussed the sensitive issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He remarked that it would be inappropriate to approach the Centre with such demands. The state was still reeling from the shock of the attack.

The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to restoring peace. He also emphasized ensuring the safety of every citizen and visitor in Jammu and Kashmir.
