New Delhi, March 31, 2025: Nidhi Tewari is a 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. She has been appointed as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Private Secretary. This marks a significant elevation in her career. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved her promotion, as confirmed by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Career Journey and Key Roles
Tewari, originally from Mahmoorganj, Varanasi, secured the 96th rank in the 2013 Civil Services Examination. She started her administrative career as an Assistant Commissioner in Varanasi. Later, she joined the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). There, she worked in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division. Her expertise in foreign policy and security matters made her a key contributor to India’s diplomatic initiatives.
In 2022, she joined the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as an Under Secretary. Nidhi was promoted to Deputy Secretary in 2023. She played a crucial role in the Foreign and Security Division. She reported directly to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

As Private Secretary, Tewari will receive a salary at Level 14 of the pay matrix. This amounts to ₹1,44,200 per month. She will also receive allowances, including dearness, house rent, and travel allowances. These bring her total monthly earnings to approximately ₹2 lakh.
