Second Consecutive Win for Team India
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been honored with the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for March 2025. This recognizes his exceptional run in the Champions Trophy. Iyer is currently leading the Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL 2025. He edged out New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra to secure the title.
Champions Trophy Heroics
Iyer emerged as the top run-scorer in the Champions Trophy. He amassed 243 runs. His performance played a crucial role in India’s title triumph. His consistency with the bat, including three significant knocks, set him apart from his competitors. Notably, he scored:
- 79 runs off 98 balls against New Zealand in the group stage
- 45 runs off 62 balls in the semi-final against Australia
- 48 runs off 62 balls in the final against New Zealand
These performances cemented his position as a key contributor to India’s success.
Historic Feat for Indian Cricketers
With Iyer’s win, India has secured back-to-back ICC Player of the Month titles. Shubman Gill had previously clinched the award in February 2025. This marks only the second time in history that Indian male cricketers have claimed the honor in consecutive months. The first such instance occurred in 2021. Rishabh Pant won the award in January. Ravichandran Ashwin took it in February. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the winner in March.
Iyer now joins an elite group of Indian cricketers. He has won this award more than once. He previously bagged it in February 2022.
