Tragedy Strikes RCB Victory Parade Outside Chinnaswamy Stadium: 7 dead, dozens injured in Stampede

Bengaluru, June 4, 2025 — What was meant to be a day of jubilation for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium. A stampede broke out during RCB’s IPL victory parade, leading to the death of at least seven people and leaving many others critically injured.

Stampede Erupts Amid Overcrowding

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when the crowd swelled uncontrollably as fans gathered in huge numbers to celebrate RCB’s long-awaited IPL title. The situation escalated quickly, with people getting crushed in the rush both inside and outside the stadium. The celebrations soon gave way to panic and confusion.

Several fans reportedly climbed stadium walls and fences in an attempt to get closer to the victory procession. The local police, who were already present for crowd control, appealed for calm and asked people to disperse. However, the situation had already spiraled out of control.

Emergency Response and Investigation Underway

Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Medical authorities have confirmed that many of the injured are in critical condition. The police have launched a formal investigation into the incident.

Preliminary suspicions point to lapses in crowd management by event organizers. The Bengaluru police have also not ruled out the possibility of negligence contributing to the deadly stampede.

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Responds

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed his grief and concern over the incident. “I cannot confirm the exact number of casualties at this moment, but I am heading to the location,” he said in a media briefing.

He acknowledged the overwhelming enthusiasm of fans and stated that additional arrangements had been made in anticipation of large crowds. “We had deployed around 5,000 extra personnel, but the emotional turnout exceeded expectations. The situation is under close watch, and further updates will be provided,” he added.

Public Urged to Remain Calm

Authorities have urged the public to stay away from the area and avoid further crowding near the stadium. While the mood was initially one of celebration, the city is now reeling from the tragic turn of events.

The RCB management has yet to issue an official statement. Meanwhile, the city mourns the loss of lives on a day that was supposed to be a historic celebration for its cricket fans.
