The quake’s epicenter was located at Dwarka, affecting Delhi, Noida, Indirapuram, and other surrounding areas.
New Delhi: A powerful earthquake struck Delhi-NCR early Monday morning, causing panic among residents who rushed out of their homes. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the tremors, measuring 4.0 magnitude, were recorded at 5:36 AM at a depth of 5 km. The quake’s epicenter was located at latitude 28.59°N and longitude 77.16°E, affecting Delhi, Noida, Indirapuram, and other surrounding areas.
As the tremors rocked the region, several political leaders took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the quake. BJP leader Tajinder Bagga posted, “Earthquake?”, while Congress leader Alka Lamba shared a similar reaction. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also informed people about the tremors, while AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal expressed concern, stating, “I pray for everyone’s safety.” Caretaker Delhi CM Atishi also echoed similar sentiments.
Social media was flooded with reactions from netizens, many of whom described the tremors as “violent” and “enough to jolt people out of sleep.” Some users reported that their beds and furniture shook intensely, with one post reading, “This is the strongest earthquake I have ever felt.”
Delhi Police reassured residents and urged them to stay safe, posting, “If you need any help, dial 112. We hope everyone is safe, Delhi!” No reports of casualties or major damage have been received so far.
This comes just a month after tremors from a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Nepal were felt across Delhi-NCR and parts of North India. While that quake caused significant damage in Nepal, Delhi remained largely unaffected.
