After Ceasefire, a New Threat Emerges: Pakistani Hackers Targeting Indians Through Calls and Files

The ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan brings calm to the borders. However, a different kind of threat has surfaced. It hides behind a mobile screen. Security agencies have raised alarms. There is a rising number of suspicious phone calls and messages. These attempt to gather sensitive information from Indian citizens.

Spoofed Calls Mimicking Indian Officials

According to intelligence inputs, several individuals have reported receiving phone calls from impostors. These individuals include retired armed forces personnel, journalists, and civilians. The callers claim to be part of the Indian Army or intelligence services. These calls often involve queries about confidential operations, including the ongoing “Operation Sindoor.”

The concerning part: the numbers appear domestic, such as +91 7340921702. However, experts have confirmed they are spoofed. They are manipulated to look Indian. In reality, they are actually being routed from foreign networks, likely from Pakistan.

What to Do If You Receive Such a Call

Security officials advise taking the following precautions:

  • Do not share any personal or sensitive information over the phone.
  • Immediately block and report numbers that seem suspicious or ask for military-related details.
  • Report incidents to the nearest police station or through the official Cyber Crime Portal.

Remember: No legitimate officer or agency will ever ask for classified or operational details over a casual phone call.

Not Just Calls—Beware of Digital Traps Too

The threat isn’t limited to phone conversations. Security experts have identified another wave of cyber-attacks involving:

  • Malicious files sent via WhatsApp, email, or social media
  • Files with extensions like .exe, .apk, or names like tasksche.exe, designed to infect devices and steal data

These files appear harmless but are loaded with spyware capable of compromising your phone or computer.

Digital Safety Checklist

To protect yourself:

  • Avoid opening links or attachments from unknown sources.
  • Never install unknown apps or software (.apk/.exe files) shared through social media or messages.
  • Use reputable antivirus programs on all your devices.
  • Keep your operating system and apps updated regularly for enhanced security.

Peace on the Border, War on the Web

While diplomatic efforts are preventing escalation on the ground, the battlefield has now shifted online. The enemy’s aim is clear: to exploit technological tools for espionage and disruption. In this new digital front, every vigilant citizen is a frontline defender.
