Tsubame Industries is a startup based in Tokyo. The company has unveiled “ARCHAX,” a 15-foot-tall robot piloted by humans. This robot is inspired by Japanese mecha and anime characters like Gundam. Weighing 3.5 tons, ARCHAX boasts 26 degrees of freedom in its joints, allowing for a range of movements.
The creation of ARCHAX represents a significant engineering achievement. Tsubame Industries collaborated with various partners, including meviy, an AI-driven parts procurement platform developed by MISUMI Group Inc., to streamline the development process. This collaboration allowed for efficient sourcing and manufacturing of complex components, expediting production timelines.
ARCHAX is positioned as a luxury item, with a price tag of approximately $3 million USD. The company has announced plans to produce a limited number of units. They are targeting enthusiasts and collectors who are interested in cutting-edge robotics and technology.
Design and Functionality
ARCHAX operates in two primary modes:
- Robot Mode: Standing at 4.5 meters, this mode emphasizes humanoid features and mobility.
- Vehicle Mode: Transforming into a more compact form, it achieves a top speed of 10 km/h.
The cockpit is located in the robot’s chest. It is equipped with four displays and nine cameras. These provide the pilot with comprehensive environmental awareness.
