Bangladesh Air Force Training Jet Crashes into School in Dhaka; At Least 19 Killed

A Bangladesh air force training aircraft crashed into a school in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday, leaving at least 19 people killed and over 100 others injured. The jet was identified as an F-7 BGI. It went down on the premises of Milestone School and College. Students were present on campus at the time. The aircraft took off for a routine training mission but crashed around 1:06 pm.

The crash sent shockwaves through the area, as emergency services rushed to the scene. Fire and rescuers from the military arrived at the scene.

Bangladesh army’s public relations office confirmed in a brief statement that the aircraft belonged to the air force. The statement did not elaborate on the cause of the crash or whether the pilot had ejected.

A spokesperson from Milestone School and College confirmed that the aircraft crashed near the school gate while classes were underway. “The plane fell on the gate and crashed nearby. A class was in session where the plane crashed. The injured are being taken out one by one,” the school official was quoted as saying to BDnews24.

Footage showed smoke rising from the school building as rescue teams worked to secure the area and transport the injured. Authorities have launched an investigation.

They aim to determine what led to the crash of the Chinese-made F-7 BGI. This type is commonly used by the Bangladesh air force for training missions.
