15 German Pilots Miss the Aero India Opening as Bengaluru Traffic Snarls Delay

Bengaluru Aero India 2025 traffic jam

Bengaluru’s infamous traffic lived up to its reputation as 15 German pilots missed the opening ceremony of Aero India after being stuck on the city’s choked roads for hours. According to a report, unaware of the extent of congestion in India’s tech capital, the pilots took nearly three hours to cover a mere 17 kilometers from their hotel to the event venue at Yelahanka Air Force Station. There was a huge traffic jam in Bengaluru on the inaugural day of Aero India where a record number of spectators reached to witness Asia’s biggest Defence and Aviation show.

The team had arrived in an Airbus A330 last week and was staying at a hotel in north Bengaluru. However, instead of using the designated lanes set up for foreign delegates, the pilots opted for regular cab services, a decision that cost them the chance to witness the inaugural speeches and opening aircraft displays.

Authorities, meanwhile, insisted that traffic flow had improved compared to previous years. According to officials, special contraflow lanes were created for delegates, significantly reducing congestion times from 4-5 hours in past editions to just an hour this year. However, those who did not use these arrangements had to navigate through regular city traffic, which remains one of Bengaluru’s biggest challenges.

Later in the day, thousands of spectators gathered near Hunsamaranahalli tank bund to catch glimpses of the aerial performances, leading to temporary disruptions. Despite these bottlenecks, authorities claimed overall traffic management had been smoother than before, attributing it to better planning and public cooperation.
