BSF Jawan Injured While Averting Major IED Attack in Gurdaspur

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained serious injuries. He bravely prevented a major tragedy. The tragedy aimed at targeting security personnel and local farmers in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.

IEDs Discovered During Night Patrol

In the early hours of April 9, a BSF patrol unit conducted an area domination exercise. They detected suspicious items deep within Indian territory, ahead of the border fence. The patrol was aimed at ensuring the safety of troops and civilians—particularly farmers who use the route during the daytime.

Upon investigation, the personnel discovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). A concealed network of wires was also found. This indicated a larger setup of explosives meant to cause mass harm.

Brave Act Prevents Large-Scale Tragedy

While cordoning off the area, one of the concealed triggering mechanisms accidentally detonated, injuring a BSF jawan on his leg. Despite the explosion, the rest of the team continued the operation with determination, securing the area and preventing further danger.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Police Station Dorangla, in the border district of Gurdaspur.

Bomb Disposal Team Neutralizes Explosives

At daybreak, the BSF Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the site. They carried out a thorough sweep of the area. The team safely neutralized the remaining IEDs in situ. Their swift action ensured the area was fully secured, restoring safety for both troops and civilians.

Display of Courage and Dedication

The courage displayed by the BSF personnel stands as a testament to the force’s unwavering commitment to national security. Their vigilance and sacrifice prevented what could have been a devastating attack on both security forces and innocent farmers.

The selfless dedication of the injured jawan and his team truly reflects the BSF’s motto: “Jeevan Paryanta Kartavya”—Duty Until Death.
