The Indian Army has taken a major leap towards digital empowerment in the farthest corners of India. They have enabled mobile network access in some of the most isolated and high-altitude regions. These regions are along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.
Connectivity Reaches New Heights in the Himalayas
For the first time, Indian soldiers at forward posts in rugged terrains now have seamless mobile connectivity. They have access to both 4G and 5G networks. This development provides them with unprecedented mobile connectivity. This advancement is unprecedented. They can now connect efficiently in these challenging conditions. This includes Galwan, Demchok, DBO, Chumar, Dras, Batalik, and the Siachen Glacier. This technological breakthrough is enhancing operational efficiency. It also boosts the emotional well-being of troops. They can stay connected with their families, even from altitudes exceeding 18,000 feet.
A Joint Endeavor for Strategic Infrastructure
This initiative was made possible through a coordinated effort. It involved the Indian Army, the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh, and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). They operated under a Whole-of-Government approach. The Army utilized its existing optical fiber cable network. They facilitated the setup of several mobile towers. Four of these towers have been deployed across key regions in Ladakh and Kargil districts. The Fire and Fury Corps played a critical role in executing this mission.
