Rules Under New Law Take Effect
The government has officially implemented the Rules under the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act, 2023. This was done through a Gazette Notification. It takes effect from May 27, 2025. These new rules aim to improve coordination and command efficiency across the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Background of the Act
The Act was originally passed by both Houses of Parliament during the Monsoon Session of 2023. It received Presidential approval on August 15, 2023. It officially came into force on May 10, 2024, and the designated Inter-Services Organisations (ISOs) were announced in December 2024.
What the Act Enables
The law gives Commanders-in-Chief and other senior officers the authority to oversee personnel from all three services under joint commands. This strengthens internal discipline. It smoothens administrative processes. All of this is done while maintaining the distinct service rules of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Purpose of the Rules
The Rules, made under Section 11 of the Act, lay down procedures for how ISOs will function. They help ensure discipline, clear lines of administrative control, and coordinated operations within joint military units.
Stronger Discipline and Faster Action
With these Rules in place, the Act is now fully functional. ISO leaders can now manage disciplinary matters more efficiently. This helps to speed up case resolutions. It also avoids repeated or overlapping proceedings. This marks a big step toward a more unified and responsive Indian military structure.
