Mahindra to Build Airbus H130 Helicopter Fuselages in India, Advancing ‘Make in India’ Vision

New Delhi — Airbus has made a significant move for domestic aerospace manufacturing. The company entered into an agreement with Mahindra Aerostructure. Their goal is to produce and assemble the fuselages for its H130 helicopters in India. The first units are expected to roll out by early 2027. This plan aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’ agendas.

Anish Shah, CEO of the Mahindra Group, described the partnership as a pivotal moment for India’s aviation industry. “This collaboration will strengthen our manufacturing capabilities. It will also play a key role in supporting Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a developed India,” he stated.

Airbus highlighted the strategic importance of this move. The company stated in a press release that it reaffirms their enduring commitment to the Indian market. “This initiative will introduce new skills and industrial processes to India, boosting local expertise in helicopter assembly,” the company said.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu welcomed the announcement, stressing the importance of building a robust aerospace ecosystem. “India has the potential to become a manufacturing powerhouse in aviation. We must invest in capabilities like this to build aircraft entirely within our borders. This will make the dream a reality,” he said.

Naidu also noted the sector’s fast-paced growth. India currently has over 1,700 aircraft on order. This is an indication of the rising demand for air travel. “The Prime Minister envisions India as a global aviation hub. I fully support expanding manufacturing to help us get there,” he added.

The deal underscores India’s growing role in the global aerospace supply chain. It represents a key step toward establishing the country as a major producer of civil helicopter components.
