01st May 2025 – Srinagar: Security forces took decisive action in a sweeping operation. This followed the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. They launched coordinated raids across Jammu and Kashmir. The raids targeted premises associated with Hurriyat factions and supporters of the banned outfit Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). The move comes amid heightened security measures and intensified counter-terror operations across the Valley.
Over 100 Locations Searched Across the Valley
Nearly 100 locations were raided in a meticulously planned operation. Sources within security agencies revealed this information. The operation spanned several districts, including Kupwara, Handwara, Anantnag, Tral, Pulwama, Sopore, Baramulla, and Bandipora. The action was part of a broader effort to dismantle support networks aiding terror infrastructure in the region.
Seizures Include ‘Anti-National’ Material
The raids led to the recovery of a substantial amount of incriminating material. According to intelligence officials, this material was deemed anti-national in nature. These include documents, digital devices, propaganda content, and records indicating logistical support to overground terror workers (OGWs). The material allegedly points to an underground ecosystem still operated or inspired by the banned groups despite official prohibitions.
Banned Groups Still Active Behind the Scenes
Investigators believe that Hurriyat factions and Jamaat-e-Islami, although officially banned, still exert influence. They do this through sympathizers and covert support structures. Officials suspect that these networks facilitated or sheltered the perpetrators of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. This attack claimed 26 lives and shocked the nation.
Security Forces Determined to Dismantle OGW Infrastructure
Officials said the recent crackdown is part of a larger effort. It aims to neutralize the overground support base. This base aids terrorism through logistical assistance, recruitment, and ideological radicalization. The recovered evidence is expected to be crucial. It will help identify the full extent of these covert operations. It will also bring those involved to justice.
More Raids Likely as Investigation Deepens
Sources indicate that more raids and arrests are expected in the coming days. Agencies will scrutinize the material seized. They will also interrogate suspects. The operation reflects the Centre’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. It signals a renewed focus on tackling ideological and logistical support systems. These systems enable violent extremism in Jammu and Kashmir.
