Successful Conclusion of Bilateral Naval Exercise VARUNA 2025

The bilateral naval exercise VARUNA 2025 took place from March 19 to March 22, 2025. It brought together the Indian Navy and the French Navy. This exercise further strengthened their long-standing maritime partnership.

This year’s edition featured a wide range of complex exercises across multiple domains, aimed at enhancing tactical and operational expertise:

    • Participation of Rafale-M aircraft from the French Navy and MiG-29K from the Indian Navy.

    • Joint exercises between Indian submarines and anti-submarine warfare frigates from both navies.
    • Focused on improving coordination in detecting and countering underwater threats.
  • Surface Warfare Tactics:
    • Complex maneuvers and simulated maritime engagements.
    • Displayed the synchronized combat capabilities of both naval forces.
  • Replenishment at Sea (RAS) Operations:
    • Conducted between fleet tankers of both navies.
    • Demonstrated strong logistical interoperability and endurance for sustained deployments.

Strengthening Naval Cooperation

The 2025 edition achieved a higher level of operational integration than previous exercises. This achievement built confidence. It also improved interoperability between the two forces.
