Successful Conclusion of Bilateral Naval Exercise VARUNA 2025
The bilateral naval exercise VARUNA 2025 took place from March 19 to March 22, 2025. It brought together the Indian Navy and the French Navy. This exercise further strengthened their long-standing maritime partnership.
This year’s edition featured a wide range of complex exercises across multiple domains, aimed at enhancing tactical and operational expertise:
Strengthening Naval Cooperation
The 2025 edition achieved a higher level of operational integration than previous exercises. This achievement built confidence. It also improved interoperability between the two forces.
Commitment to Maritime Stability in Indo-Pacific
The exercise reinforced the shared vision of maintaining a rules-based maritime order. It also promoted peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. These operations further bolstered the collective ability to handle contemporary maritime security challenges. Challenges include piracy, illegal trafficking, and freedom of navigation concerns. The exercise highlighted the strategic alignment between India and France in safeguarding vital global sea lanes.
A Cornerstone of India-France Defence Ties
Since its inception, the VARUNA series has remained a key pillar of India-France defence relations. It demonstrates the mutual commitment of both countries to strengthen collaborative defence efforts. This commitment helps ensure maritime security in an increasingly complex global environment.
