After “Taare Zameen Par” was a hit in 2007, its thematic sequel “Sitaare Zameen Par” is much awaited by fans. Released on 20th June, the film marks Aamir Khan’s return to the big screen after three years. This sports comedy-drama, scripted by Divy Nidhi Sharma and directed by R.S. The Story
The movie explores unity, strength, and kindness. It does this through the lives of ten neurodivergent basketball players and their short-tempered coach – Gulshan (Golu) Khan. Golu Khan has a reputation to redeem. With wise and timely support from his family, he learns from his youngsters. As a result, he transforms himself. The theme of the underdogs making their own way in the face of obstacles is moving. It includes humorous moments in this emotional rollercoaster.
This is a remake of Campeones (Champions), a 2018 Spanish movie. But the movie goes further than any other Bollywood hit in terms of diversity and Inclusion.
Representation of differently abled
The movie takes on the bold and risky theme of neurodiversity through sports. Apart from Aamir, it features 10 debut actors. They are Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. Genelia D’Souza is also part of the cast.
All of these ten lead actors are especially abled. This marks a new page in representation of the differently abled in mainstream cinema. Aamir Khan said in an interview, “I learned a great deal from them. Their presence on set would shift the entire atmosphere—they’re always happy, free of ego, and incredibly patient.”
Disability Rights Advocates even hope that this movie will shift perspectives. It could challenge stigma and redefine talent. They also wish to improve the inclusion of the neurodivergent population.
