Proposed Road Project to Enhance Connectivity
The Noida Authority has unveiled plans to construct a new 35-km corridor. The aim is to reduce congestion on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Traffic volumes are expected to surge after the inauguration of the Noida International Airport in Jewar. Therefore, authorities are exploring two potential options for the project. Officials revealed two potential developments. They will either construct a 35-km eight-lane road running parallel to the Yamuna embankment. Alternatively, they may build a 35-km six-lane elevated roadway extending from Kalindi Kunj barrage to the Yamuna Expressway. They will opt for the most viable alternative.
Decision Pending on Road Structure
Vijay Rawal is the General Manager of the Noida Authority. A detailed project report (DPR) must be completed first. He stated that the final choice between the two proposed structures depends on this report. The authority will assess the technical and financial feasibility of each option before proceeding.
Joint Funding Initiative
To finance the project, Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary and Noida Authority Chairman Manoj Kumar Singh has given instructions. The Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) are to contribute jointly. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) can only fund roads that cross multiple states. Therefore, local authorities must take responsibility for financing the project.
Next Steps for Implementation
Officials have outlined two possible approaches for executing the project. One option is the formation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV). Another option is delegating the task to an industrial body to finalize an expert agency for DPR preparation. The selected agency will also recommend a suitable funding model for the project.
Boosting Connectivity in the Region
Once completed, the new corridor will enhance connectivity between the Yamuna Expressway and Pari Chowk intersection in Greater Noida. This development will significantly benefit commuters traveling between Delhi and Agra.
Previous Road Development Plans
The Noida Authority has previously explored similar projects to improve connectivity. In November 2023, the authority proposed constructing a 35-km elevated road along the Yamuna, built above the embankment road. However, when the authority approached NHAI for funding, the proposal was declined. Despite this, Noida remains committed to improving road infrastructure to facilitate better transportation links in the region.
