Uttarkashi in Turmoil: Airlifts, Chaos & Courage Mark Fourth Day of Rescue

Rescue operations continued on fourth day post cloud burst in Uttarkashi’s Dharali. NDRF DIG Gambhir Singh Chauhan remarked positively on rescue efforts saying “Yesterday’s operation was extremely successful, in which approximately 400 people were safely evacuated. The operation is ongoing… So far today, about 150 people have been evacuated… If the weather remains favourable today, all agencies will work together to complete this operation…”

CM Pushkar Singh Dhamivisits the landslide affected area ensuring every possible help to affected families.

Helicopter Chinook takes the Charge

Amid rescue efforts at Uttarkashi, helicopter Chinook drops essentials, generator and other heavy articles required in affected areas. 

From Uttarkashi’s Dharali 113 people are evacuated to Matli Helipad during continuous operation since 11 PM. CM Dhami reached again at Matli helipad, introspected the developments amid rescue operations.

Airtel and JIO services started in Uttarkashi 

The basic telecom services have started. Earlier the services were disrupted including the transportation services due to heavy flash floods and landslides. 

IMD Warns Heavy Rainfall

In the mountainous terrain of Uttarakhand, there are possibilities of heavy rainfall. A yellow alert is activated for Dheradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Podi, Bageshwar, Pithoragadh, Udhamsingh Nagar, Champavat, and Nainital.

Possibilities of heavy rainfall is predicted in few other districts as well.

 ISRO Satellite Images Showcases Extent of Destruction in Dharali 

In the satellite images released by ISRO, 20 hectares of total area in Uttarkashi has experienced mass destruction. The entire course of the river has changed. Several buildings can be visibly noticed drowned in flood waters.
