76 Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, India Demands Action

23 Hindus have lost their lives. Additionally, 152 Hindu temples have been targeted in violent incidents across Bangladesh.

The Government of India has expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh provided information about the attacks. There were a total of 76 cases reported in Bangladesh. These cases occurred between November 26, 2024, and January 25, 2025.

Further, reports since August 2024 show that 23 Hindus have lost their lives. Additionally, 152 Hindu temples have been targeted in violent incidents across the country.

Taking note of these disturbing developments, the Government of India has conveyed its concerns to the Government of Bangladesh. During his visit to Dhaka on December 9, 2024, the Foreign Secretary of India reiterated India’s expectations. He emphasized the need for the protection of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi government responded to the concerns. They announced on December 10, 2024, that 70 people had been arrested. These arrests were in connection with 88 cases related to attacks on minorities. Police investigations further identified 1,254 incidents of violence against minorities.

The Government of India has emphasized a key point. The Government of Bangladesh holds the primary responsibility for safeguarding the life and liberty of all citizens, including minority communities. Meanwhile, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka continues to watch the situation. They work to guarantee the safety and security of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

These incidents have sparked concerns among the Indian diaspora. Human rights organizations have also expressed worries. They have urged both governments to take concrete steps to prevent further violence. They want to guarantee justice for the victims.
