India Blocks 16 Pakistani YouTube Channels for Spreading Misinformation After Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi, April 28, 2025 — In a major crackdown on disinformation, India has taken decisive action. It blocked 16 YouTube channels based in Pakistan. These channels were allegedly spreading provocative, communal, and misleading narratives. This followed the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, government sources said.

The move was initiated on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs. It comes in the aftermath of the April 22 assault. During this assault, 26 people lost their lives. A brutal terrorist strike occurred at the popular tourist destination of Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam.

The list of blocked platforms includes YouTube channels from some of Pakistan’s leading media outlets. These include Geo News, Dawn, Bol News, ARY News, Samaa TV, Raftar, and Suno News. Prominent journalists have faced restrictions on their YouTube accounts in India. These journalists include Muneeb Farooq, Umar Cheema, Asma Shirazi, and Irshad Bhatti. Other banned channels include Uzair Cricket, The Pakistan Reference, Razi Naama, and Samaa Sports.

Collectively, these platforms had amassed over 63 million subscribers. According to Indian officials, the blocked channels circulated inflammatory content. They promoted falsehoods against India and its security forces. Their attempts aimed to destabilize communal harmony.

Fallout of the Pahalgam Attack

The terror strike in Pahalgam was one of the deadliest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing. It has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The assault targeted tourists in a usually peaceful area. It shocked the nation. The attack triggered widespread protests demanding strong action against Pakistan.

Investigations into the attack are being spearheaded by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has intensified efforts on the ground. Senior officers, including an IG, DIG, and SP, are leading evidence collection and have been interrogating eyewitnesses since April 23.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has ramped up search operations to track down the perpetrators. Forces along the Line of Control (LoC) and in sensitive districts like Anantnag and Pahalgam remain on high alert. This reaffirms India’s resolve to counter terror threats with firm action.
