Inside the US Strike on Iran: The Timeline of Attack

Amid the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, the US has struck Iran, supporting Israel’s objective of destroying Iran’s nuclear programme. Here are the details of the attack that took place around midnight of 21st and 22nd June

Saturday, 21st June 2025: B-2 Stealth Bombers headed to Guam. This happened just as President Donald Trump prepared for his return to Washington, D.C. Guam is an American island territory in the Western Pacific. B-2 aircrafts are capable of carrying the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP). This raised questions about a possible US military strike on Iran.

Chronology of Events Unfolded on Sunday, 22nd June, 2025

According to the Tehran Time Zone: Until 1 AM, Israeli Kamikaze drones were active in several regions. Kamikaze drones, also known as loitering munitions or suicide drones, are unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). They are designed to strike a target by crashing into it. Then, they detonate an explosive warhead. They were used to distract Iranian air defences.

01:14 a.m.: The sound of planes was heard over Shiraz a city in south-central Iran. American planes were also heard over Central Iran, possibly heading towards the primary nuclear facility of Iran near Qom.

02:04 a.m.: Two planes were heard over the city of Qom in central Iran. This was followed by the sound of an explosion. Notably, Fordow, the most fortified and major nuclear site of Iran, is located near Qom.

02:13 a.m.: Another explosion was heard near Kashan. The city of Kashan is also located in central Iran, near Fordo.

02:38: An explosion was heard in Fordow, due to the airstrike. The US later confirmed that the Fordow facility, deeply buried in the mountains, came under heavy bombing. It is now operational.

02:41: The booming sound of an explosion was heard in Isfahan Nuclear Technology and Research Center. Also located in central Iran, and is home to the country’s largest nuclear research complex. It is a multi-purpose research center suspected of being the center of a secret Iranian nuclear weapons program. It operates three Chinese-supplied research reactors.

02:46: An explosion occurred at the uranium enrichment facility in Natanz. Natanz has an underground fuel enrichment plant. It had been targeted by Israeli airstrikes as well. Natanz is Iran’s primary enrichment facility. It houses both the commercial Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP) and the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant (PFEP).

02:55: GPS jamming was observed across Iran. This is done to hinder the navigation and communication of enemy aircrafts after a strike. However, Trump confirmed that the US bombers safely exited Iranian airspace. The US successfully struck the backbone of Iran’s nuclear programme.

Operation Midnight Hammer

The United States has attacked Iran’s vital nuclear installations at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. This is one of its biggest airstrikes in decades. The strike, known as Operation Midnight Hammer, was “an incredible and overwhelming success.” US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced this. He added that the operations were carried out after instructions from US President Donald Trump.

“The operation President Trump planned was bold and it was brilliant, showing the world that American deterrence is back. When this President speaks, the world should listen,” Hegseth said in a press briefing on Sunday.
