Lieutenant General V Hariharan Takes Command of 1 Corps, Mathura

Lieutenant General V Hariharan, recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Sena Medal, began his role as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Corps. This took place at Mathura on 17 Jun 2025. He took over from Lieutenant General Sanjay Mitra, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.

Lieutenant General V Hariharan is an alumnus of Officer Training Academy, Chennai. He was commissioned into 10 Battalion, The Garhwal Rifles on 25th August 1990. The officer is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He also attended the Higher Defence Management Course in Secunderabad. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi. He also holds a Master of Science from Madras University & Master of Management Studies from Osmania University.

Officer with Experience of Multiple Operations

The Officer has a rare and invaluable experience in varied terrains and operational environments. This includes the line of Control, Counter Insurgency, Counter Terrorism operations in hinterland, and the Line of Actual Control. The Officer has participated in OPERATION RAKSHAK in Jammu & Kashmir both in hinterland and Line of Control. He has also participated in OPERATION MEGHDOOT and OPERATION SNOW LEOPARD.

In his distinguished career spanning over 35 years, he has commanded an infantry battalion. He has also led a Rashtriya Rifles Sector in Jammu & Kashmir. Additionally, he commanded a Counter Insurgency Force along the Line of Actual Control. He has held multiple instructional and staff appointments. These include Brigadier Procurement (A) in Major General Staff Branch. He was also the Additional Director General Discipline and Vigilance at the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army). The General Officer has been an Instructor in Infantry School Mhow twice. He was a Directing Staff at Senior Command Wing, Army War College, Mhow. He served at the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad. He has also been a Senior Instructor in Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

For his meritorious service, he has been awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation thrice. He has also received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Sena Medal. Additionally, he is a unique recipient of Director General CRPF Commendation.
