Cross-Border Tensions: Increase in Firing at LoC

Rising Tensions Along LoC, Surge in Firing Incidents in South of Pir Panjal

The past ten days have seen a sharp increase in cross-border firing incidents. These incidents occurred along the Line of Control (LoC) in the south of the Pir Panjal region. There have been reports of sniping, firing, and Border Action Team (BAT) attempts from across the border. Sources within the Indian Army show swift and effective handling of these incidents at the local level. The ceasefire agreement remains officially intact.

According to Army sources, Pakistani forces and terrorists have tried to intrude multiple times in the Krishna Ghati sector. This area is in Jammu and Kashmir. These attempts have failed, and they have suffered heavy losses in the process. Last week, Pakistani troops initiated small-arms fire and blasts along the LoC. This action prompted a strong retaliatory response from the Indian Army. Despite India raising the issue with the Pakistani side, the cross-border disturbances have continued.

Amidst these developments, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps visited the Reasi and Rajouri sectors. He reviewed the security situation there. He commended the alertness and dedication of the troops in ensuring the region’s security and maintaining stability.

Close Monitoring by Indian Army

While official statements emphasize that the ceasefire agreement remains intact, the ground situation reflects an increase in hostilities. The Indian Army remains on high alert, prepared to respond firmly to any further provocations.

The surge in cross-border firing is ongoing. This event marks almost exactly four years since India and Pakistan reaffirmed their ceasefire agreement. The reaffirmation occurred along the Line of Control (LoC). The reaffirmation took place in February 2021. The agreement was reached between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. They aimed to bring stability along the LoC. Their goal was to reduce tensions. However, the recent spurt in ceasefire violations is particularly alarming. It is most prominent in the south of the Pir Panjal region. This raises concerns about the fragility of the agreement. The timing of these renewed hostilities coincides with the fourth anniversary of the ceasefire pact. This adds to the complexity of the situation. Indian forces stay on high alert to counter any further provocations.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reaffirmed India’s strong stance on the issue. He stated that the Indian Army is giving a befitting reply to Pakistani ceasefire violations. LG emphasized the seamless coordination between security forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. He asserted that terrorism must be eradicated at any cost. He further assured that all necessary actions against cross-border terrorism will continue without interruption. Maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir is the top priority.
