Collaborative Sessions Held in New Delhi
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) recently hosted interactive sessions with more than 50 start-ups. They also involved Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The goal was to accelerate technological advancements in the defence sector. Defence Production Secretary Shri Sanjeev Kumar led the meetings. They took place at South Block, New Delhi, on March 24 and 25, 2025.
Focus on Challenges and Opportunities
The discussions centered around identifying barriers faced by emerging businesses. They also uncovered new growth opportunities. Additionally, they aimed at strengthening the government’s role in supporting innovation. Many participating companies are part of the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative. This initiative aims to foster indigenous technologies and reduce dependency on imports.
Key Technologies in Focus
The sessions covered an array of cutting-edge technologies. These included space applications and quantum computing. They also covered electronic warfare and drone technologies. Additionally, they explored artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), radar systems, cybersecurity, and advanced material science. These discussions also emphasized the dual-use potential of such technologies, applicable to both defence and civilian domains.
Strengthening Defence Start-Up Ecosystem
In his address, Shri Sanjeev Kumar expressed gratitude to the participants for sharing valuable insights and recommendations. He highlighted that these contributions would assist the Ministry in fine-tuning its policies. This would make them more inclusive and supportive of deep-tech innovations. He further encouraged greater participation from start-ups in developing next-generation defence solutions.
